Activities and events

Fishing

The mighty Orange River never disappoints, and our river frontage provides a variety of conditions for differing fishing styles. The main feature to be noted is a rock weir that runs through the breadth of the river, creating a slower pool above perfect for bait fishing and faster rapids below well suited for flyfishing and spinning. All fishing is catch and release (after the obligatory photo evidence has been collected) and anglers can expect to hook both large and small mouth yellowfish, barbel, carp and mudfish.

Trawling can be practiced at own risk.

Bird watching

A truly diverse habitat with 99 formally logged bird species in the area, it is a must for birdwatchers of all levels. Some special locals include a breading pair of fish eagles and many breeding pairs of hamerkop whose nests can be admired from a respectful distance as well as blue cranes, kori bustards, secretary birds and loads of lbj’s!

Nature observation

The farm provides a safe environment to experience and observe the local fauna and flora. Positioned in an exceptional transitional region, it presents characteristics of the distinct Nama Karoo, Grassland and Savanna biomes of South Africa. Despite being a working farm, an abundance of game and other wildlife can be easily observed either on foot or by vehicle.

Hiking and trail biking

The farm is riddled with roads, game and cattle trails, and dry river tributaries that are perfect for both hiking and cross-country biking. The quiet landscape is filled with the sounds of birdsong and rustling grass, just what you need to still a racing mind and clear out the cobwebs.

Stargazing

The wide-open landscape and lack of light pollution affords a dazzling view of the night sky, and the camp has a clear line of sight to the horizon where the full moon makes its appearance. Winter nights present an especially clear view and the sunsets over the river are pretty stunning as well!
